Author spotlight: MJ Scott

14 January 2023

In the lead-up to ARR2023 in February 2023 we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have MJ Scott. MJ will be signing in Melbourne.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

I read category romances in my teens. When I came back to romance as an adult, Jenny Crusie.

What do you write?

Romantic fantasy and urban fantasy

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

Usually the characters, the plot comes as I write. Sometimes an idea for a situation.

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

The Exile’s Curse. I think Jude Law (if he was still a bit younger) would make a good Lucien. But if not him, Chris Hemsworth in his less Thor’d up mode.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

The Traitor’s Game is book 2 in my Daughter of Ravens romantic fantasy series. Here’s the teaser …

But now she has an inconvenient marriage no one wants to let her end, a diplomatic scandal to navigate, and old troubles swirling around her. As well as trying to determine who might want her dead. And that’s just the beginning…

What else are you working on at the moment?

Wicked Dreams, book 4 in my Tech Witch series
