Author spotlight: Amber Jakeman

In the lead-up to ARR2023 in February 2023 we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Amber Jakeman. Amber will be signing in Sydney and Melbourne.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

Jojo Moyes

What do you write?

I write feel-good fiction at the sweeter end of the romance spectrum. I adore uplifting endings!

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

Setting is a powerful motivator for me. My House of Jewels series is set in Australia, France and the US, because I could imagine my characters in the places I’ve lived and visited. That said, the action is driven by the characters.

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

House of Hearts. I think Aussie actor Luke Bracey would make a brilliant Will Huntley. Will is exceedingly good looking and he knows it. I’d love to see smart, beautiful Brie Larson play straight-laced gambling addiction therapist Dr Lisa Bakker.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

My latest release, Full House, brings together all the characters of the five-book House of Jewels series in an unforgettable showdown. The series presents the romantic and business interests of the fictitious Huntley family of jewellers, with stores in France, the US and Australia. Full House features Nicole Huntley, who froze out family friend Scottie back when they were teenagers, and now regrets it. This second-chance romance explores some high-stakes conflict of interest. Full House takes us right to the edge, asking what it would take to destroy the Huntleys’ retail empire and family—and break Nicole’s heart!

What else are you working on at the moment?

I’ve just begun an ‘escape to the coast’ beach trilogy, inspired by my experiences living and working as a journalist on the beautiful NSW Central Coast.

I’m really enjoying getting to know a fresh set of characters, including the reclusive former rockstar and guitar maker Jake Bannerman, who is squandering his song-writing talent when someone astonishing turns up to sell the house next door …
