Release day: Half Moon Bay

22 May 2013

Today is the official release of Half Moon Bay by Helene Young (trade paperback and ebook, Penguin Australia). Here’s the blurb:

Half Moon BayEllie Wilding has been running from her past, but when the residents of Half Moon Bay call for help she knows it’s finally time to return home. As an international photojournalist, she’s used to violence in war zones, but she’s shocked when it erupts in the sleepy hamlet on the north coast of New South Wales, threatening all she holds dear.

Battle-weary Nicholas Lawson walked away from his military career leaving unfinished business. In a coastal backwater, that decision returns to haunt him. He remembers all too vividly his last lethal assignment in Afghanistan when Ellie’s sister, Nina, was shot and killed. Ellie’s been in his dreams ever since, even if she doesn’t remember him…

As a storm rages and floodwaters rise, Ellie struggles to save her community. But who can she trust? Nick Lawson, the dangerously attractive stranger with secrets, or an old friend who’s never let her down?

Helene dropped by today to tell us a little about this book:

Have you ever had someone you love betray everything you hold most dear? Half Moon Bay explores how far someone will go to right an injustice. Set in a small coastal town somewhere on the northern New South Wales coast around Yamba and Angourie, it’s a story of a community’s fight for survival in the face of a corrupt development and one young woman’s battle to find the truth. It’s a story very close to my heart.

You can find out more about this book at Helene’s website or Facebook page.

To win a copy of Half Moon Bay leave a comment on this blog article. A winner will be announced on Wednesday 29 May. The contest is open to all ARRA members, even those who live overseas. (The winner is Barbara)

Thanks, Yvonne, the Hunter Valley is certainly under siege. I used to do aerial survey flights over the region fifteen years ago and the coal mines were visible but scattered. I was shocked when I flew over there a couple of weeks ago…

Hope you enjoy Half Moon Bay 🙂

All the best with the release of your book. I’m from Hunter Valley area and the storyline really resonates, especially with what developers and industries are doing to our beautiful country side. What a way to show off through your book the wonderful north coast of NSW. A romance with an adventerous heroine and a returned veteran, intrigue, corruption, greed and natural disasters. This book will be a must read for me.

Helen, I’m so excited that this release has been so seamless. I’ve already had emails from other readers who pre-ordered it and woke to find it in their in-boxes. I love technology 🙂

And to get a wake up call from my sister in France to tell me she’d been able to buy it on line over there is the very yummy icing on the cake! (Mind you some more sleep would have been lovely too!)

      Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks, Barbara, I loved writing this story and it’s been on the back burner for several years so the new version is extra special for me. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as the others 🙂

Hi Helene, I just loved Burning Lies so I’m really excited that you have another book coming out. And it’s just great to read good gritty action/romances set in familiar Australian settings and battling – along the way – our violent elements. I think that’s why I loved Burning Lies so much – where I live we regularly suffer bushfires and I could relate so well to it.
BTW I’d never thought of being a “shelf elf”, Gillian – what a great idea!
    Cheers,
    Shiona

Thanks for your lovely words, Shiona! Burning Lies was very dear to my heart so I hope you enjoy Half Moon Bay as much.

And shelf elves are an author’s best friend! We love our readers who busily rearrange shelves putting favourite books up front, loud and proud! I have a ball rearranging my local K-Mart store – I half expect to be escorted off the premises 🙂

Two for the price of one, Jenny 🙂 And how fabulous to see our very own Bronwyn Parry is shortlisted for the Daphne du Maurier award again this year. It’s great to see Australian Romantic Suspense being recognised in America!

It looks gorgeous. I love that part of the coast, up near the Northern Rivers. Definitely on my list to read. Love Aussie romances!

Thanks, Malvina, my dad spent a lot of time stationed with a ship based out of Ballina. We headed south for weekends and holidays and roamed further to Yamba and Angourie. It’s a wonderful stretch of coast. Hope you enjoy Ellie and Nick’s story 🙂

That question hits a particularly tender spot for me, Helene, but I can quickly move away from that and into your storyline. The reason? Amidst the very intriguing suspense is a romance, one I know will end happily and, with that, is always that feeling of hope. Your blurb fits many of my favourite indulgences, a good suspense, small town, military hero and of course, romance. I’m seduced. Now to find a bookshop (I live a long way from one, but I’ll get there! 🙂 Congratulations!

Thanks, Rosalie, I’m glad the story resonates with you. Fingers crossed and your name might come out in the draw! And if not, then I hope your bookseller can send you a copy 🙂

Thanks, Susan, I’m so glad I’ve converted you to romance! It’s really all about an optimistic ending and I think there should be much more of that 🙂 Life’s too short for angst!

A huge congratulations, Helene! I have never really been a romance reader until reading your books. I do enjoy them and I shall look forward to getting a copy of this one.
