Jenny Schwartz, virtual tourist

We’re all friends here, so I’m going to start with a confession: I’m a virtual tourist.

I love exploring exotic places, but I also love my home and in the interests of avoiding travel sickness (huge yuck, I can’t even drive long distances), credit card debt and reproachful looks from my golden retriever, Toby, (who’d be left behind), I stay at home.

I explore the world through books, documentaries and online — the generosity of travellers who share their stories and photos just astounds me, in the best of ways. I have a particular weakness for 360 degree shots, as at Panoramas.dk

Researching Syria for my latest story, Three Wishes, I fell in love with Crusader castles (gorgeous photos shared by Brian McMorrow here). One day I’m going to travel for real and stay in a castle-turned-hotel, somewhere like the Parador de Granada which is right in the Alhambra.

Because how could I possibly go travelling and not visit the Alhambra?

So, what’s your dream travel destination?

I have a digital copy of my paranormal romance novella, Three Wishes, to give away and I’ll randomly choose a winner from commenters.

The giveaway has now been drawn – congratulations to Barbara.

She is the Bringer of Death

Cali, a djinni, has sworn to twist the wishes of humans so they die by their own greed and evil. Her latest master is arms dealer David Saqr, a man Cali believes deserves the fate she has in store for him. But this time she finds herself up against Andrew, David’s guardian angel.

He is a Protector of Life

Andrew believes David can yet find redemption. He fights Cali for the man’s life, even as he tries to persuade her to give in to the sizzling attraction between them. He shows Cali another side of David, and invites her to trust again, to hope. But centuries of being enslaved have hardened Cali’s heart—it’s going to take all of Andrew’s love to convince her to open it and let him in.

Too many places that I want to visit but 2 of the top ones would be a haunted castle in England (there is a tour where you sleep at a different castle every couple of nights). Also would love to visit the Library of the Benedictine Monastery of Admont, Austria, Simply gorgeous.

Your story sounds fascinating and would love to read about her.

Hi Jenny…. your books sounds very good…another one to add to the list
Not sure where I would like to go but to the UK would be good and visit all the relations and friends as I lived more than half my life there….

There’s something special about travelling to a place that was once home — esp when you get to catch up with friends and family. I hope you get back to the UK for a lovely visit 🙂 But what a long flight it is!

We have plans for a big UK trip in the next few years, so that would be our dream destination for sure! 🙂

Three Wishes sounds like such an interesting premise Jenny – it’s nice to see something other than a vampire or a shifter in the mix (not that I don’t adore vampires and shifters!).

    • 19 June 2011 5:00 pm

I’d have severe withdrawal symptoms without the shifter books of Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews, but glad you like the idea of angels and djinn — although they ought to come with a warning, too. Like shifters, they’re addictive 🙂

And if you get to Cornwall and Tinagel Castle, in particular, I’m going to be so envious. I definitely want to go there — one day. Hope you have the best trip!

There’s no way I can narrow it down to one destination. There are so many places still on my bucket list. Though probably the one place I will never see is India. Hubby won’t go, and I won’t go without him. Sad.

I’d love to go to India — but I’m such a travel coward. I just know I’d get Delhi belly and see more toilets than tourist sites.

Jenny, it is so strange – you and I travel EXACTLY the same way! I simply love to visit places all around the world, but there’s a lot to be said for doing it from the comfort of your armchair. Now, if I could fly first class, stay in resort hotels, and had staff to handle the arrangements? Well, then it might be different. 😀

My dream destination would have to be Scotland – specifically the Highlands. Or New Zealand (can I say that on an Australian blog? LOL) Love your books! Can’t wait to read Three Wishes!

    • 19 June 2011 11:49 am

Betsy, you and I could have the best travel adventures — all virtual. But if I’m ever in the money stakes to afford first class travel (as if!) you’re coming, too. I’ve read enough Monarch of the Glen, Whiskey Galore, etc to enjoy the Highlands, and New Zealand is just a hop next door (for me). Great places to visit — well, except for earthquakes. Poor Christchurch.

Oooh! I love the premise of Three Wishes, Jenny. Guardian Angel vs Djinni…. Mmmhmm!
As for my dream destination? Italy with my daughter. She’s named Roma (nothing to do with Rome, actually) and she’d love to visit her “namesake” city. I figure a mother and daughter trip would be wonderful!

    • 19 June 2011 11:46 am

I swear djinn are dangerous! You become addicted to them 🙂

Rome is definitely on my travel list. Along with Florence. Actually, I’d like to live in Florence for about six months and just let all that art and history soak in.

A mother-daughter trip sounds perfect, and Roma is such a great name. Makes me think of gypsies.

Thank you so much for commenting and bringing Rome and Italy to my mind.
