Author spotlight: Alissa Callen

5 December 2022

In the lead-up to ARR2023 in February 2023 we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Alissa Callen. Alissa will be signing in Sydney.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

Margaret Way

What do you write?

Rural and small town fiction

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

Setting, then characters (both animal and human)

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

For Snowy Mountains Cattleman I would cast Lily Collins as Grace, the stylish interior designer, and Jason Lewis as Rowan, the cattleman who moonlights as a stonemason.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

Snowy Mountains Cattleman is set in the little book town of Bundilla and combines everything that I love to write about: family secrets, history and mystery (based on something that was found in Paris), relationships (am fascinated by how people connect), animals (they are so much a part of our lives), the rural landscape (I live on a farm, so inspiration surrounds me) and a feel-good storyline with an uplifting ending.

What else are you working on at the moment?

Two more Bundilla stories. A Christmas novella that features a vet and a city girl, and then a full-length book about high country horsewoman Brenna who finally meets her match.
