Author spotlight: Louisa Duval

27 November 2021

In the lead-up to ARR2021 in December we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Louisa Duval.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

Kylie Scott. A friend recommended her to me and that was my gateway into romance reading and writing.

What do you write?

Contemporary, small town, 1st person. I have a standalone novel, and an upcoming series.

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

Characters, I think! I was inspired by my local rural fire brigade and wanted to write a story about these volunteers winning against bushfires and in love.

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

I’m launching Ignite in February 2022 and I reckon Liam Hemsworth with dark brown hair, and some stubble would make a great Dr Harry Cain. Isabelle Cornish, from SAS Australia and Home and Away, would be a great match for my sheep-farming, car-racing heroine, Stacey Turner.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

I’m releasing the audio edition of Whisky and Sunshine, the prequel for the series, in December. Amanda Turner finds love in a Scottish whisky distillery with a grumpy CEO. Like Scottish accents? You’ll love this!

What else are you working on in 2021?

I’m currently writing a standalone novel about Floribunda Frost, who’s arrested by her high school ex and sentenced to community service as an entrant in the annual Harvest Festival Queen quest. It’s a second chance at love with a posse of octogenarians ‘helping’ the young lovers get back together.

In 2022, I’m releasing my series of full-length novels, starting with Ignite in February. The Turner family live on their historic sheep station and are members of the Ballydoon Rural Fire Brigade. When their sister returns home to get married, an arsonist starts lighting fires. The Turners will do everything they can to stop the fires while finding love along the way.
