Author spotlight: Alli Sinclair

26 October 2021

In the lead-up to ARR2021 in December we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Alli Sinclair.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

It was Sweet Valley High created by Francine Pascal, but also written by other authors. The series was released when I was a teenager and set me on a lifelong love of romance books!

What do you write?

I mostly write dual timeline novels with contemporary and historical storylines. All my books are stand-alone and third person. All my historical storylines are inspired by real-life events and facts and every book contains strong heroines who love to defy society’s expectations.

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

For the historical stories, it’s usually an event or era that jumps out at me and the characters and plot follows.

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

In The Cinema at Starlight Creek I’d love to see Sarah Snook as Claire and Simon Baker as Luke and Noni Hazlehurst as his grandma Hattie in the 1994 storyline. In the 1950s Hollywood storyline Samara Weaving would make the perfect Lena Lee!

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

Inspired by the real-life female codebreakers who worked for Central Bureau, Australia’s elite top-secret signals intelligence organisation in WWII, The Codebreakers follows the journey of Ellie O’Sullivan, a country girl whose exceptional logic and integrity attract the attention of Central Bureau to work with England’s Bletchley Park codebreakers. She’s sworn to secrecy and struggles with the magnitude of the promise she’s made to her country, a wedge grows between her and those she holds dear. When the man she loves asks questions she’s forbidden to answer, how will she prevent the double life she’s leading from unravelling?

What else are you working on in 2021?

Aside from writing my next book, I’m also producing a documentary about the codebreakers and developing a TV drama. I also have two other book-to-film projects I’m working on with a really fabulous TV and film producer from LA. Not much sleep is being had, but I love that so much is going on!
