Author spotlight: Kandy Shepherd

12 October 2021

In the lead-up to ARR2021 in December we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Kandy Shepherd.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

Georgette Heyer, but as I’m writing for Mills & Boon I’d like to include Anne Mather, I loved reading her passionate romances.

What do you write?

Contemporary romance

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

The characters and the setting, the plot builds from there.

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

It would have to be Love is a Four-Legged Word, starring Josh Hartnett for his gorgeous dark good looks as Tom, and red-haired Rose Leslie as spirited Maddy. It would be fun to cast Brutus the millionaire mutt who brings the hero and heroine together! I got terribly excited when Sony Entertainment expressed interest in this book, but sadly it never went anywhere.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

From Bridal Designer to Bride: Billionaire commitment phobe Josh Taylor is on a mission to see if bridal designer to the stars, Eloise Evans, could be the secret twin to his best friend Tori. He doesn’t expect to be smitten by Eloise or to find himself tangled up in her life as her fake fiancé. Eloise is just as smitten with Josh, but his well-meaning deception and her deep-seated fears make the path to their happy-ever-after a rocky one. I loved writing these characters, and Daisy the rescue dog who brings them together. The book is set between Sydney and Boston.

What else are you working on in 2021?

My next release from Harlequin Mills & Boon is Second Chance With His Cinderella, to be published in Australia in January 2022. I think of this as my COVID book, as the characters don’t stray far from London instead of flying around the world as my characters usually do!
