Author spotlight: Renee Dahlia

2 October 2021

In the lead-up to ARR2021 in December we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Renee Dahlia.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

My gateway series into romance was Nora Robert’s Irish Thoroughbred series.

What do you write?

I write both contemporary and historical romances, all third person (so far), across a range of heat levels and pairings (mostly fm and ff, with a few mm).

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

Neither—often ideas come from a what-if question and the characters come after that. Plot happens organically as I write (I have a template with emotional beats that I use as a reminder, but mostly it’s just figure it out along with way).

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

Her Lady’s Fortune. For Priya I would cast Hannah Simone (Cece in New Girl), and for Rosalie I would cast Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

I had two books release within days of each other in July: Her Lady’s Fortune is a lesbian historical romance. Before WWI, Rosalie and Priya had a one-night stand. Now the war is over, and they need to work together on a charity for war widows.
Secrets of the Soho Club is a regency anthology, and my story is an mm Thomas Telford inspired novella about an engineer and his accountant.

What else are you working on in 2021?

I have a lesbian contemporary series releasing at the end of this year with Violet Gaze Press, set in a burlesque club in London. And I’m currently writing an mm series based around a Formula One racing team.
