Author spotlight: Samara Parish

14 September 2021

In the lead-up to ARR2021 in December we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Samara Parish.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

Julia Quinn. The first romance novel I ever bought was The Viscount Who Loved Me at a Lifeline Book Fair and I was hooked.

What do you write?

Historical romance set in Regency England. My debut series features three engineers finding love within the ton, so there’s a fish out of water aspect to them all.

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

Characters. I find really interesting people show up on the page as I write and then I work out what the best and worst things I can do to them are.

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

Chris Hemsworth was on my inspiration board for How to Survive a Scandal, as was Grace Kelly. If I had to choose a modern actress I would probably say Amanda Siegfried.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

How to Survive a Scandal

Lady Amelia was raised to be the perfect duchess, accomplished in embroidery, floral arrangement, and managing a massive household. But when an innocent mistake forces her and the uncouth, untitled Benedict Asterly into a marriage of convenience, all her training appears to be for naught. Even worse, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to this man no finishing school could have prepared her for.

Benedict Asterly never dreamed saving Amelia’s life would lead to him exchanging vows with the hoity society miss. Benedict was taught to distrust the aristocracy at a young age, so when news of his marriage endangers a business deal, Benedict is wary of Amelia’s offer to help. But his quick-witted, elegant bride defies all his expectations … and if he’s not careful, she’ll break down the walls around his guarded heart.

What else are you working on in 2021?

As I write, I have page proofs for How to Deceive a Duke sitting on my desk ready for me to go through. It’s my final opportunity to make changes before it goes to the printer.

Once those are in, I’ll keep drafting the third in the series, currently untitled. It’s the story of Lady Charlotte Stirling, who has always been in love with her brother’s best friend. When he inherits a bankrupted estate and only marriage to Charlotte’s cruel sworn enemy can save him, she searches desperately for a way to save him.
