Author spotlight: Heather Reyburn

11 September 2021

In the lead-up to ARR2021 in December we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Heather Reyburn.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

KM Peyton (with her gorgeous historical trilogy ‘Flambards’—read as a high school student and never forgotten).

What do you write?

Rural fiction. I have been writing for two years and currently have  two series—the first a four-book series set in western Queensland is ‘Sweet’ or ‘Clean’ romance or ‘Women’s fiction’ with a target audience of both women and men of any age. The second (new) series I am currently writing is set in rural New Zealand—a trilogy set on the same farm, but with each book featuring a different generation (ie 1930-40s, 1960-70s and the final one set around 2005-06). All written in third person. Book 1 is published and book 2 not far away!

Which usually comes to you first—characters or plot (or something else)?

Hard to tell—I think the main character appears in my head and the plot quickly joins her!

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

The Cedar Tree. I would cast Rachael Taylor and one of the Hemsworth brothers.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less:

Peninsula Promises. Alice Simpson is a young mother with three little boys and a loving husband in 1935 New Zealand. When she agrees to move to a new farm on a windswept peninsula to provide a better life for the family, she leaves behind, her close, if rather controlling extended family. Struggling to adapt to the hardships, isolation and a variety of odd and intriguing characters, Alice relies on the exchange of letters with her favourite sister for support and outside contact. While the beauty of her surroundings seeps into her soul, calamity strikes and long kept secrets begin to unravel …

What else are you working on in 2021?

Currently writing the second book in the series (beginning in 1966) and I’m plotting the third (2000s).
