I am not usually into books with kink and the ‘my woman’ stuff in a contemporary setting, but I really enjoyed the story of Toby and Lucy.

The characters are both very human and scarred. Lucy, with her external scars and the way she stares the world right in its face, is just wonderful. Toby as a Dom had a lot of love and care to give.

Toby has just hired Lucy as his new office manager and then they catch up, accidentally, at a speed dating evening. She is there to scratch an itch as one-night stands are all she thinks she wants, and possibly deserves. She gets insulted by a rich (rude) kid and Toby and his brother come up behind and demand he apologise. Toby and Charlie are both impressed by how Lucy puts the kid in his place.

It is from here their story starts. Both Toby and Lucy have been thinking about the other since she was hired and the fact that they are off limits due to working together. Luckily for the readers that is not how the story goes. The pair are by turns tender and feisty, scared and brave.

While Toby is not my type, re the kink, his strong sense of right, his ability to care for Lucy and his family, and behave with honour is classic hero. It is an emotional story, full of love, fear, care and heat. There is lots of steam too for those who like to see what goes on behind the bedroom door.

This is book 3 of The Bennetts Bastards series, and I will be reading the first two as the whole family seems to be interesting and their backstory has a lot more to tell us.
