He has heard the story and must do what he can to save and protect Fair Ellen. Instead, Dougal Drummond is washed up on a beach, on an island he has never heard of, into the arms of Kirsty.

Kirsty Macbain is the daughter of the Laird of Askaval. Things are fairly relaxed on Askaval being such a small community and Dougal is surprised at this being used to much more structure and strictures of his clan castle.

Kirsty sees Dougal and before she really knows his name, she tells herself he is the one. As they try and repair his boat, she is hampering the repair by drilling holes, so that he will stay a little longer. Dougal is determined to find Fair Ellen as he has pledged himself to defend her. When the repairs are done, Dougal is off to save Fair Ellen. Obviously, Dougal returns to claim Kirsty.

This is Ms Campbell’s Christmas gift to readers. I really enjoyed this novella with highly independent Kirsty and the stubborn Dougal. It was very entertaining and I was often shaking my head at Dougal’s stubbornness to believe he was only chasing an urban legend.
