Author spotlight: Jane Hinchey

30 January 2020

For ARR2020 in March we will be featuring more than 90 romance authors across five cities. If you live in (or near) Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide, come along and meet local authors, as well as our international guests—Darynda Jones and Susan Donovan.

Today we are spotlighting Jane Hinchey. She will be attending ARR2020 in Adelaide.

How old were you when you first started writing romance?

Oh, we’re talking age now? Hmmm, let’s just say four years ago and leave it at that 😉

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

Gena Showalter and Darynda Jones—I can never pick just one!

Have you written genres other than romance (or are you thinking about it)?

Yes, I currently write paranormal cozy mysteries (and will have them available at the signing).

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

I would choose my Awakening series—three books, one movie—my leading lady would be Kate Beckinsale (she sizzles!) and leading man Ian Somerhalder. Drool.

What is the hardest part of creating a story?

The beginning. No wait, the middle. Hold on, it could be the end. LOL. I don’t know. In all honesty, I don’t think there’s any one thing that is the hardest or the easiest. Each book is different.

What is your favourite place to write?

My home office. I like it quiet, I’m not the type to write in cafes etc, I get too distracted people watching—which is great if you’re looking for content for your books, but not so much if you’re actually trying to write those books.

Have any of your characters been inspired by real-life people?

Nope. I write paranormal, so everything I write is fantasy based. I have fantasised at putting people who’ve ticked me off into a book and killing them off. But I’ve never actually done it. Or have I?

What was the last romance you read and loved (and why did you love it)?

I’m a bad author. I haven’t read a romance book in ages! I’ve been focusing on my cozy mysteries in 2019 and I can tell you the latest one I read was called Louisiana Longshot by Jana DeLeon—not a paranormal mystery but a very entertaining read with a heroine who isn’t your typical glasses-wearing, cupcake baking, amateur sleuth.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less

Witch Way to Death and Destruction is book number five in my cozy mystery series. With townsfolk possessed and goblins running amok, the last thing Harper Jones needs is a murder, but someone is out for blood, and she fears it’s hers. Llewellyn the demon hunter is convinced Harper is a powerful witch who needs protecting, and as more and more bizarre occurrences pile up, she’s starting to think he’s right.

What else will you be working on in 2020?

I’ve been re-releasing my urban fantasy romance works under the name JA Hinchey (to separate out my cozies), and as part of that, I’ll be re-vamping my Supernatural Investigation Agency series and adding two more books to that. I’m also planning a brand-new urban fantasy romance series (yet to be named) plus a new cozy mystery series as well. Lots of books coming in 2020!
