Author spotlight: Jessica Gleave

16 December 2019

For ARR2020 in March we will be featuring more than 90 romance authors across five cities. If you live in (or near) Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide, come along and meet local authors, as well as our international guests—Darynda Jones and Susan Donovan.

Today we are spotlighting Jessica Gleave. She will be attending ARR2020 in Brisbane.

How old were you when you first started writing romance?

Twenty-six years old. When the idea for the story that would become Straight Through the Heart, came to me.

Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?

Virginia Andrews/VC Andrews. I remember it was Darkest Hour. Quite an eye opener for a young teenage girl.

Have you written genres other than romance (or are you thinking about it)?

I’ve been thinking about writing a short dark urban fantasy piece. Something inspired by Black Widow by Iggy Azalea…

Choose one of your books to turn into a movie—who would you cast in the lead roles?

Straight Through the Heart. Gareth Lloyd to be played by Chris Pine and Morgana Van Wilden to be played by Gal Gadot.

What is the hardest part of creating a story?

The middle part. Beginnings and endings come to me easily, it’s always the middle I get stuck with.

What is your favourite place to write?

The beach. There’s just something calming about the waves that allows my mind to wander.

Have any of your characters been inspired by real-life people?

I’m a writer so I draw inspiration from a lot of the people around me.

What was the last romance you read and loved (and why did you love it)?

Daxon’s Hostage by Michele Mills. I’m currently addicted to sci-fi romances and this one was heart-warming with amazing world building.

Tell us about your latest release in 100 words or less

I Will Protect You is book 4 of The Van Wilden Chronicles. This book follows the events of book 3’s climatic events. Eshe Kalu once loved Jonas Van Wilden, until he did the very thing she couldn’t forgive him for. But she’ll discover she receives more from him than expected. Morgana is still dealing with the aftermath of her ordeal. Can her mate Gareth help her through it?

What else will you be working on in 2020?

I am planning on writing books 5 and 6 in The Van Wilden Chronicles. I also hope to finish the first two books in a spin-off series. Plus books 5 and 6 of the Kingdoms of the Ocean series.

If you haven’t booked your ticket for ARR2020 yet, you can buy one HERE.
