One Friday night, recently divorced Beth Banfield pushes herself out of her comfort zone, heading to Northbridge’s bars to find a man. She’s considering calling it a night when a man approaches her. Physical attraction explodes, and she goes home with him. In the middle of a steamy encounter, they are rudely interrupted and Beth’s night ends in a way she never expected.

Damien Nyhuis is an undercover policeman from the Western Australian State Protection Team (WASP) and he has been in deep cover with the outlaw motorcycle gang Notechi for years. The one night when he lets his guard down is the night he’s confronted by members of the gang who suspect he’s crossed them. Beth and Damien are taken hostage and transported into the middle of Western Australia’s outback to be questioned by the gang leader.

When they escape from their kidnappers, they are faced with trekking across the outback to find help, while avoiding those searching for them. Damien explains who he is to Beth and they head out. The close proximity and danger heightens emotions, causing their physical attraction to reignite. Their escape is a hot journey, in more ways than one, and Beth soon finds herself doing things she’d never dreamed of.

Can Beth return to the person she was before and is Damien prepared to give up his undercover work to pursue a relationship? Is a long-term relationship even an option for them? Maybe they should just be concentrating on staying alive?

Defiant is the second instalment of Leah Ashton’s WASP series and continues to follow the adventures of the WASP team. Once again, she has written a steamy romantic suspense story set in Western Australia, which is full of action and romance. Beth and Damien will have you cheering them on and flipping the pages right from the start as you will immediately find yourself drawn into their story. Leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy this book as once you start the only way you stop is by reaching the end. Even then, you won’t need to wait for long before diving in again as the third book in the series is soon to be released.
