Do you really know the full story of Romeo and Juliet? What if they didn’t die? Do you think that you could find your way in a different time period? In a well-known story? Harriet is about to find out.

Harriet Hunter is a typical teenager living in Tasmania. She has homework, fights with her mother and does not have a good self-image in some aspects of her life. She has an English assignment to complete for homework which needs to change the ending of Romeo and Juliet. Then she finds herself in one of the world’s best classic stories.

Harriet has woken up in fourteenth century Italy. Juliet’s Nurse has come in to dress her for her meeting with her future husband, Paris. Ooops, now Harriet needs to figure out where she is in the play, how she can deal with events, and how she can get home again. It is going to be hard to describe what happens next as that will give away much of what the second half of the book contains regarding this ‘new’ version of Romeo and Juliet. It is easy to say that the point that Juliet drinks the potion changes and it is Paris who drinks the potion. I think from this you can see that both Romeo and Juliet survive but it is what happens next that lays out where the story leads. Harriet’s presence in the past does change some things but we may never know if those changes have moved into the twenty-first century.

This is a book for Young Adults, however, if you know the classic Romeo and Juliet you may be interested is reading what might really have happened if one small thing changed. Ms Price has presented an entirely plausible new story and twist to this classic tale. And yes, there are HEAs.
