This country town, Willow Bend, has its characters and share of events and The Drover’s Rest is the centre of many of these events. It has been neglected but that is about to change.

Amber Hutchinson has inherited the hotel. She has just lost her job at a company in Melbourne, but this has come her way. She intends to look at the hotel, clean it up and then sell it as a going concern. When she arrives in Willow Bend, the hotel is in much worse condition, and it will take more than the funds she has in her account to fix the hotel. On her first day, she meets Zach.

Amber starts to find out about the family she never knew about. And it is hard to get her head around all the new relatives! Her mother left town and never looked back. She also told Amber that all the family had died, and her mother’s final statement was leaving Amber, alone to survive, on her sixteenth birthday. Amber has also had a partner who betrayed her leaving her to believe that she was unlovable and only has herself to rely upon, at all times.

Zach Wentworth lives on the property Glendale but finds that he starts to spend more time in the town where he can be in Amber’s sphere. He wants to help her, and frustratingly for him, she rejects his offers of assistance. It takes him time to break down all of Amber’s barriers and get her to realise that they belong together, and that he would do anything for her.

This story is a slow burn. Zach has a lot to do to convince Amber they need to be together. Amber wants to be independent and do things on her own. She wonders if she is good enough to love after what her mother and last boyfriend did to her. Zach also has had a bad relationship, one that makes him wonder if he is good enough to love. But together they are able to make it work, eventually.

This town and the characters will grow on the reader. They have their own quirks and ways. Some will make you laugh, some will make you shake your head, some will have you wondering and others you will fall in love with. One such character is Rufus, Amber’s dog. His love and loyalty will melt your heart.
