Favourite reads: Sep 2017

5 October 2017

Books_purpleWelcome to our Favourite Reads for September. Each month some of ARRA’s members will tell you a little bit about one of the books they’ve recently read and loved.

These are not full reviews of the books, just honest opinions on why they enjoyed the book so much. Hopefully one of these will strike a chord with you.

So, we asked our members to tell us about some of their favourite reads for September …

Nineteen Letters by Jodi Perry (contemporary romance)

Wow, this is an amazingly beautiful story! There is so much emotion and beauty in this story, I could hardly put it down. I cried, I laughed and I smiled, but above all I felt the emotion and love that is shown by Braxton Spencer to his wife Jemma after a tragic accident nearly takes her away. This is a must-read story for anyone who loves a truly magical story. This was the first story I have read by this author and I look forward to more. This really is a story that I highly recommend. [Helen, NSW]

The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare (Girl Meets Duke #1) (historical romance)

What fun this was to read, witty banter and a strong take-no-nonsense heroine who turns out an excellent match for the Duke of Ashburton. He’s a bit growly and brooding and scarred and such, but never so bad he loses his innate sense of niceness. The opening scene with Emma in the ridiculous wedding dress she’s sewn for His Grace’s ex-fiancee is fabulously entertaining. I also loved the funny character, a boy called Trevor. A Beauty and the Beast/Cinderella story. [Malvina, NSW]

Team Player by Cate Ellink (erotic romance)

Another fantastic book by one of my newest favourite authors. I’m not usually a fan of menage stories, but this book delivers it all: two NRL players and a sports reporter! I loved the unconventional relationship storyline (M/M/F) and the way it is beautifully written. This is one hot, steamy read that you can’t put down and you will need to devour it in one go. [Juliette, Vic]

Shadow’s Seduction by Kresley Cole (Dacians #2) (paranormal romance)

The Dacians are also part of Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark World, but these stories take place apart from everything else that is going on with the Accession. This story features Prince Mirceo Daciano and Caspion the Tracker, who much to their surprise find out they are each other’s fated mates. Mirceo was great fun, especially when he got over his debauching and set his sights on Caspion. This was a very different Caspion to the one we met in Shadow’s Claim—he is 100 years old and tougher, and he is going to take a lot of convincing that Mirceo can be faithful to him. [Debbie, ACT]

Lifer by Beck Nicholas (YA sci-fi romance)

Wow, this was an amazing read. The premise of a slave spaceship in the future is compelling as well as a character who wakes up with no clothes and no memory. The characters and world building are well written and we see the story through two YA viewpoints all the while we are questioning, wondering, and discovering. If you like your YA with some grit, romance, mystery and set in the future, you’ll love this book.
