Feature book: The Thief

The Thief by Allison Butler

She has been doing things under her clan’s radar, but she gets caught by the clan next door. Put into the chamber under lock and key, Kenzie needs to be smart to find a way out.

Kenzie Irvine has been helping those on the fringes of the clan area, for a long time. She considers them to be family more than her natural family. She is very annoyed that she got caught but has so far kept her identity a secret. Kenzie escapes and manages to give the provisions to the families in need. She gets captured again.

Lachlan finds out Kenzie’s identity and immediately sets out to obtain her father’s permission to marry her, which he does obtain. He is then off finding the priest to marry them when Kenzie is recaptured. She is married to Lachlan, and he begins to court Kenzie so that can see his other side. Kenzie is faced with many of Lachlan’s good deeds and she finally starts to see his other side and fall in love. Just as they are at the same point, Kenzie’s sister arrives. Naturally Jeanne taunts Kenzie as being second best, as Lachlan had been one of Jeanne’s suitor. There is also trouble with Laird Irvine, the father of the women, and Lachlan needs to sort it out so that Laird Irvine understands what will happen if he continues to steal the Elliott cattle.

I love a good Scottish medieval. And Ms Butler certainly delivers in this story. While the conditions are harsh, there is a lot of love, friendship and familiarity among the Elliott clan. Lachlan is the type of man to deal with issues of the heart as soon as it arises and Kenzie, despite thinking she is tough, is actually quite sentimental. A perfect match.

I really look forward to the next three books in the series.
