Feature book: Playing it Cool
Playing it Cool by Amy Andrews
Dex the Stud is in da house and is turning lust into sexy play.
Dexter Blake is on target. He will play a few more years of rugby before he starts the next part of his life. He does have to find someone to share it with him but he is willing to wait, until Harper’s curves distract him. He gets her to ‘date’ him just to annoy her stepbrother, Chuck, who thinks he is a great sports reporter. Chuck constantly puts Harper down with his comments but she is mostly able to overlook this because it means she gets to spend time with her twin half siblings, whom she adores.
Harper Nugent is currently painting murals for the Children’s Hospital. She is a graphic artist by trade but fell into this artistic endeavour which brings her into contact with Dex and his rugby team. Harper agrees to seeing Dex one day a week or as his time allows and they play computer games, watch movies and play sex games. Naturally, they both think they can play the games and be friends with benefits without further consequences and emotional ties. Dex wants to have Harper (and all her curves) to himself, but this becomes contentious when she believes that he wants to keep her as a dirty little secret.
All seems to be going well with their arrangement until Harper murmurs ‘I love you’ in her sleep and Dex is late for training (which involves penalties from the coach). They separate, at least for two weeks, then start the routine of sleeping together. The final confrontation happens and Harper cries on her best friend’s shoulder. Together they plan Harper’s appearance at the hospital gala and it is there that things really appear to spin out of control as many of the men think Harper is really hot, which leads to her being auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Now I could continue and tell you what happens next but I think the reader really needs to read it for themselves, particularly the conversation between Tanner and Dex. Absolutely loved it. It is a great finish to the story and readers will have a smile on their face at how this is resolved.
This is the second book in the Sydney Smoke series and Dex and Harper’s story is still very sexy and entertaining as was Tanner and Matilda’s story. The intense need the pair have for each other jumps off the page, and many of the situations they are in to slake the need are just too entertaining for words. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
