A letter written, replied to and then hidden, really causes chaos in Lady Newland’s life.

Elizabeth, Lady Newland, is a recent widow. Her marriage was only a few years old but her husband was gracious and understanding. Her first love was Henry Andrews, the new Lord Muir, newly returned from America with his fortune. He wants to continue his relationship with Elizabeth but she clearly does not want him especially after he told her in a letter that he no longer wanted her. She just wants to live her life with her son. But herein lies the problem: Henry is the father of Samuel, and Elizabeth married another to ensure there was no scandal.

At first Henry does not understand why Elizabeth could marry another so suddenly when he said he would return. He tries not to be attracted to her but the connection is just too much, and he wants her. What both Henry and Elizabeth do not know is that another man wants Elizabeth so desperately he is willing to scheme, stalk, blackmail and kidnap.

There is much ado with secrets and misunderstanding in this story. Each time the couple are about to reunite, another meddlesome issue arises and the couple go their separate ways. The story is fairly intense and is not a light story to read quickly. It is the detail that makes the reader think about what may next befall the couple.
