Release day: Starfound

14 April 2016

Today is the official release of Starfound by Valerie Parv (Beacon series, book 1.5) (ebook, Momentum Books). Here’s the blurb:

StarfoundGuy Voland could not have arrived on Earth at a worse time.

Earth has been saved from the brink of destruction (in book 1, Beacon Birthright, released March 2016) – but for how long? Aliens known as the “beacons” have just averted the planet’s total obliteration, so a powerful energy field near Earth is not putting minds at ease. And when Guy appears out of nowhere, remembering nothing but his name, the questions quickly stack up: is he a man, or an alien Trojan horse?

One thing is soon made certain: he is the genetic twin of the country’s leading scientist, Adam Desai, who is still coming to terms with his own alien origins. Not surprisingly, Adam suspects a connection between the stranger’s sudden appearance and the recently defused threat to their planet.

While Adam struggles to determine what Guy’s existence means for himself and the future of humanity, both men fight the alarming effects of their too-similar make-up – and stuck in the middle is the space center’s alluring, newly appointed director, Rosie Granger.

Valerie dropped by today to tell us a little about this book:

A key reason I wrote this series was to explore our fascination with super heroes, who I believe represent the secret side of us nobody else suspects. Sure, we might be ordinary in real life, but inside each of us lives a brave, confident super identity prepared to take on the world. Many super heroes have timid, bumbling alter egos. But step into the secret hideout, or spin around at super speed and the “real” us appears, capable of amazing feats. You could say the beacons are what I—and I suspect many readers—would most like to be. The Beacons’ saga started with my favourite question—what if? What if you had the ability to see whatever you wanted to see whether inside a molecule, or across the universe. Or what if you had super hearing that defies logic? Exploring these questions took three novels and two novellas, all being published before the end of June. In this novella, Starfound, we meet a mysterious character whose role grows over the series until we discover his secret identity and purpose in the roller-coaster final book. I hope you’ll enjoy the beacons and their special powers, and especially Starfound, the latest stage in an incredible space odyssey.

Thanks Malvina. I’ve been a scifi nut forever so it’s a joy to finally play in that sandbox. Of course there’s romance – can’t help myself – but some pretty solid scifi, too, if I say so myself🙂
