Release day: Too Charming

7 June 2015

Today is the official release of Too Charming by Kathryn Freeman (paperback, Choc Lit). Here’s the blurb:

Too CharmingDoes a girl ever really learn from her mistakes?

Detective Sergeant Megan Taylor thinks so. She once lost her heart to a man who was too charming and she isn’t about to make the same mistake again – especially not with sexy defence lawyer, Scott Armstrong. Aside from being far too sure of himself for his own good, Scott’s major flaw is he defends the very people that she works so hard to imprison.

But when Scott wants something he goes for it. And he wants Megan. One day she’ll see him not as a lawyer, but as a man … and that’s when she’ll fall for him. Yet just as Scott seems to be making inroads, a case presents itself that’s far too close to home, throwing his life into chaos.

As Megan helps him pick up the pieces, can he persuade her he isn’t the careless charmer she thinks he is? Isn’t a man innocent until proven guilty?

Kathryn dropped by today to tell us a little about this book:

The idea for Too Charming came, bizarrely, from my love of a brooding, rugged hero. I’m drawn to them and consequently have read a lot of books featuring them (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read and watched the Poldark series…). My first paperback book even featured my own rough diamond hero. But having written The End on that book, I itched to write a hero who was totally different. And that is how Scott Armstrong was born. On the outside he’s smoothly good-looking. A charmer, a flirt, a ladies man. More your Ryan Reynolds than Ryan Gosling. He’s absolutely the type of man my heroine, Detective Sergeant Megan Taylor, mistrusts. She doesn’t rate men who are too handsome—or too charming. Perhaps that’s not surprising as it was a man just like that who stole her heart, then left her to bring up their daughter alone. To spice up the chemistry between Megan and Scott, I made him a defence lawyer. Not only did it seem to appeal to his slick, confident image, it also made him a man who spends his days defending the same people Megan wants to imprison. Basically, Scott is the antithesis of everything Megan wants in a man. The trouble is, the prickly, feisty, though in Scott’s eyes also deliciously attractive, detective is exactly what he wants. And when he sees something he wants, he goes right after it. Undaunted by her snubs he begins a charm offensive, determined to win her over. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it starts to work. After all, it’s surely very hard for a woman to keep saying no to a sexy man … isn’t it? (and yes, I had to use my imagination a lot there!). Just as Scott appears to be getting close to her though, his life gets really complicated and the veneer of polished charm starts to fall away. Will the man it reveals manage to capture Megan’s heart?

Really interesting to find out how you developed the characters and plot for Too Charming, Kathryn. I loved reading the book on Kindle, and it’s great that it’s now in paperback too.
