Second Chance IslandSecond Chance Island by Jenny Schwartz

Laura Robertson is a marine biologist. After years at university and growing up with a loving family of fishermen, she wants nothing more than to save the world. She has very strong opinions on this and will fight for the cause. She has just taken a casual job on a tropical island on the Great Barrier Reef after she lost her last job because of government funding cuts. This is a stopgap till she gets another job in her field. She is single at the moment. She has broken up with the love of her life four years ago after doing something that she is not proud of. She has never forgotten Phil, and she has had no other men in her life.

Phil Cooper has not had a good childhood. Being an only child and a son to a single mother who was never well and passed away, he throws himself into university to make something of himself in business. He has always yearned to write and creates an alien character called Rafe, who has the most amazing adventures. He falls heavily for Laura at university, and they live together while studying. She is the one and only for him. She is also strong, which hinders his protective nature. When she does something pretty bad and walks out on him, he gets on with his life, and his alien Rafe is made into a movie. He has become very successful, but he never gets over Laura. Four years later, he decides that he needs to see Laura and get this all sorted out.

I really enjoyed this novella. It is about the reuniting of past lovers, and it has the most beautiful setting, the Great Barrier Reef. When Phil arrives on the island unexpectedly, Laura is shocked and excited. She knows it is time to sort out the past as they each get on with their lives, but the spark is still there and the pull is strong. She is also a very strong and determined woman, and she needs to make Phil understand that he cannot stand up and protect her the way he did his mother. Both have changed over the years and have grown more confident, but, yes, the love between them is still hot. Neither can deny the attraction, and they fall into each other’s arms.

This is a very sensual journey of rekindled love and forgiveness as they open up to each other. The setting adds to the sensuality of the story, and their openness with each other shows the strength that they have. This is just the story to brighten your day. It is fast paced, very well written and will pull you in from the start. This is a story that will keep you smiling throughout, and I highly recommend this one.
