Feature book: Loving You is Easy
Brooke Ellstein is a teacher in a private school in New York. She is a caring and loving person even though her mother is not the nicest person. She is always trying to set Brooke up with some very rich male who will suit her family. Her father is running for governor and their family is very political and not very close. Brooke has had a difficult time growing up and a very bad incident when she was seventeen. She runs a program setting up pen pals for troops fighting overseas and, when there is an error, she becomes a pen pal to a soldier serving in Afghanistan. For eight months they write and email each other and get closer, but he is very sure from the start that he does not want this to end in a boyfriend–girlfriend situation.
Shane Develen has been a soldier since he left school. He comes from a working-class family in New Jersey. He is strong, good looking and has seen many of his fellow soldiers and friends die in action. He has been injured himself and looks forward to having Brooke as a pen pal, but having a girlfriend is not on his agenda. Being a soldier’s girlfriend is not what he wants for someone. It is not a good life to lead according to Shane. But he and Brooke get very close in the eight months they are writing to each other and skypeing. He is due home for some leave and is hoping to meet her in person.
Brooke arrives at the airport unannounced to meet Shane. She is always watching YouTube videos of soldiers returning to their loved ones and although she knows that Shane is strongly against girlfriend–boyfriend, she is hoping that maybe there could be a chance as she is falling for him. He is happy and shocked that Brooke has shown up at the airport. The banter between them about kissing will have you smiling, and what a kiss it is. Brooke agrees to go back to his hotel room with him for the night but is determined that no sex will be involved as she needs a relationship for that to happen. So they talk and get to know each other and there is making out.
They continue their writing when Shane returns to the war zone. She sends him some sexy photos that he has been asking her for, with the promise they are for him only. But when these photos show up on social media and Brooke is suspended from her job while they investigate comments that are made, Brooke learns that Shane has been back in America and has been injured. This starts a very up-and-down journey with many twist and turns to a HEA.
I really enjoyed this story. It is emotional and will pull at your heart strings as the strong person Shane is fights to be well again with his disabilities and feeling he is not good enough for Brooke. Brooke is a lot stronger than anyone else thinks. When she spends time with Shane and his family, and Shane realises that love is all that Brooke needs after a meeting with her family, it will have you smiling and cheering them on. I highly recommend this one.
