Release day: The Forsaken Heart
Today is the official release of The Forsaken Heart by Brenda Gayle (ebook, trade paperback, The Wild Rose Press). Here’s the blurb:
When Anna Graham marries Callum Hart she’ll get both the man she loves and her uncles’ agreement to take over the family ranch. Will the return of Jackson, her long-lost first love—and Cal’s brother—throw it all in jeopardy?
Cal has been in love with Anna for as long as he can remember. It was he who picked up the pieces of her broken heart when Jackson disappeared years ago. His brother’s sudden reappearance, just when it seems Anna is ready to love again, is mysterious—as is his father’s casual acceptance of the prodigal son’s return.
But is something more sinister going on? Someone seems determined to prove Anna incompetent to her uncles and insincere to Cal. With an arsonist on the loose and cattle dying, old secrets are exposed, and Anna and Cal face a challenge that will test their love far more than Jackson’s unexpected homecoming.
Brenda dropped by today to tell us a little about this book:
Writing The Forsaken Heart was somewhat of a bittersweet experience for me. This is the third book my Heart’s Desire series, and it marks the end of a story arc that began in The Hungry Heart. While each book is a stand-alone romance, and you don’t have to read the others in the series to understand and enjoy the current one, writing The Forsaken Heart gave me the opportunity to revisit some of the previous characters and see what they’d been up to. Many of the scenes became like a family reunion, ripe with the usual interpersonal dynamics of sibling (or in this case, cousinly) rivalry, and they were truly fun to write. However, as I approached the end of the book, a sadness descended as I felt the characters preparing to leave me to pursue their own lives. While the original story arc is complete and Hunter, Chad, and Anna all have their happily-ever-afters, I can’t help but wonder about a few of the other characters who are still searching…
