Release day: Falling Apart

7 June 2014

Today is the official release of Falling Apart by Jane Lovering (ebook and paperback, Choc Lit). Here’s the blurb:

Falling ApartIn the mean streets of York, the stakes just got higher – and even pointier.

Jessica Grant liaises with Otherworlders for York Council so she knows that falling in love with a vampire takes a leap of faith. But her lover Sil, the City Vampire in charge of Otherworld York, he wouldn’t run out on her, would he? He wouldn’t let his demon get the better of him. Or would he?

Sil knows there’s a reason for his bad haircut, worse clothes and the trail of bleeding humans in his wake. If only he could remember exactly what he did before someone finds him and shoots him on sight.

With her loyalties already questioned for defending zombies, the Otherworlders no one cares about, Jess must choose which side she’s on, either help her lover or turn him in. Human or Other? Whatever she decides, there’s a high price to pay – and someone to lose..

Jane dropped by today to tell us a little about this book:

Falling Apart is the sequel to the first in my ‘York Vampires’ series, Vampire State of Mind, and follows on almost directly after that book ends. This is my first experience of writing a series, and it’s really difficult! I mean, not difficult like calculating fractions or trying to dust behind a bookcase, but it’s still hard. Keeping characters consistent and building on the action of the book that went before, and making sure that readers are still invested in the relationships between the main characters has been more taxing than I thought. Hopefully I’ve managed it, and kept the interest going in my very particularly British vampires. I started writing the series when I got annoyed at how American-centric all paranormal fiction seemed to be, as though only those square-jawed, tanned, muscular American vampires were worth writing about. So I decided to write about how it would be if vampires came to Britain and found how obsessed with filing and order and queueing we are, and how much biscuits feature in our daily lives. Falling Apart relates to our central characters, Jess and Sil, and what happens when he betrays her in one of the worst ways a vampire can …

Congratulations Jane. Wonderful to have a refreshing take on vampires. i like vampire books but have grown somewhat weary of sameness. I really like the premise of yours, but first I will need to go find the first in the series, hey? Seems you’ve got me hooked in at least. 🙂
