Release day: Beneath Outback Skies

1 February 2013

Today is the official release of Beneath Outback Skies by Alissa Callen (ebook, Random House Australia).  Here’s the blurb:

Beneath Outback SkiesA captivating rural romance featuring an indomitable young woman determined to save her family farm, and the city-boy who is not all he seems…

Paige Quinn will let nothing and no one distract her from caring for her crippled father, Connor, and fighting for her remote, drought-stricken property, Banora Downs. Least of all a surprise farm-stay guest named Tait Cavanaugh, whose smooth words are as lethal as his movie-star smile.

Except Paige can’t help noticing that, for a city-boy, Tait seems unexpectedly at home on the land. And he does ask a lot of questions…

It doesn’t matter how much he helps out or how much laughter he brings into her life, she soon suspects he is harbouring a big secret – the real reason he has come to Banora Downs…

Alissa dropped by today to tell us a little about this book:

Beneath Outback Skies was one of those books that almost seemed to write itself. My hunt-and-peck typing skills often had the characters telling me to hurry up so they could get on with what they were supposed to be doing. This story is full of red dust, secrets, romance and the antics of a blue-heeler puppy called Bundy. It also is the journey to self-discovery of three characters–Paige Quinn, her father Connor, and city-boy, Tait Cavanaugh–as well as a testament to the resilience and generosity of outback communities. I hope you enjoy reading about how Banora Downs’ homestead becomes filled with laughter and love again as much as I enjoyed writing such a novel.

You can find out more about this book at Alissa’s website and buy it at Random House Australia.

Hi Barbara, there is something about outback stories that make them so readable:) It also is so fabulous that rural fiction is just going from strength to strength so there are plenty of outback books to enjoy.

Congratulations Alissa. Reading the blurb takes me back to the days of Lucy Walker and other authors who wrote of the Outback ( for the life of me I can’t remember my other favourite). I dreamed of living the life. 🙂 The books helped me get through the difficult years of adolescence.
Now, much older, I would read yours for the sheer joy of a good story. 🙂

Thanks Cathryn! Yes the cover fairies have been very kind:) What makes the cover even better is that she actually really looks like Paige – even down to the faint freckles!
