ARRC2013: update

17 January 2013

arrc2013_webbanner_darkAre you joining us for the Australian Romance Readers Convention in Brisbane this year? If not, why not?! It’’s the perfect place to meet up with other romance readers and chat about your favourite books, authors and characters, as well as discovering new authors, finding out more about the authors you love, getting all the latest on their upcoming releases and (of course!) winning fun prizes!

ARRC2013 is proudly brought to you by Booktopia, and will be held on 1-–3 March at the Mercure in Brisbane. March is the perfect time of year to visit south-east Queensland–the weather starts to cool down, but the beach still beckons! This convention will be the third of its kind in Australia, and we are planning for it to be the best one yet! Please read on for more details about the keynote authors, our program and other exciting events.

Our keynote authors represent their respective sub-genres well. Anne Gracie is a multi-award winning historical author who believes that humour and love are universal languages and that favourite books can take you home, wherever you are. Kristan Higgins is a best-selling author of contemporary romances, and has been labelled ‘’the master of small-town romance’’; her books will make you laugh and make you cry. Rachel Vincent is the highly acclaimed author of three urban fantasy series. She remains convinced that for every day she spends writing, one more will be added to her life span.

Other international authors attending the event include historical author Cathy Maxwell, historical and YA author Hope Tarr and paranormal and urban fantasy author Nalini Singh. In addition, over 60 Australian authors are registered to attend, including award-winning authors Anna Campbell, Denise Rossetti, Bronwyn Parry, Helene Young, Keri Arthur and many, many more. You can see the full list of attending authors here.

The convention opens with a welcome reception on Friday 1 March, and this year we are delighted to say that it will include the first Lady Jane’’s Salon held outside of the US, hosted by Hope Tarr.

Saturday and Sunday will see some difficult decisions being made by our delegates–which concurrent session to attend? Paranormal or ‘‘The Romance Hour’’? Historical or ‘Authors as readers’? Erotica or romantic suspense? Ah, the dilemma! If you haven’’t had a look at the program recently, the latest one is now available here.

Our keynote authors will also address plenary sessions–we know from previous years that these can be side-splittingly hilarious, as well as insightful and fascinating.

The book-signing event is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, with more than 60 authors taking part in the signing. This is the place to ‘’fan-girl’’ your favourite authors! If you can’’t make it for the whole weekend, why not come along to the book-signing? Entry is only $7.50 for ARRA members, and $10 for the general public.

Dymocks are our bookseller for the convention, and will also have a sale point at the book-signing event–warning, you will probably need more luggage space to take home all the books from new authors you’’ll discover during the convention!

The ARR Awards will be announced during a gala dinner on Saturday night. This is a highlight of each convention, a chance to get dressed up, compete for the ‘’Bling-off’’ and enjoy the delicious food.

This event only happens once every two years, so register now for what promises to be an exciting weekend full of fun, romance (novels!), giveaways and memorable moments. Meet up with old friends, make new ones, and meet all your favourite authors in the flesh!

If you miss out, you’’ll have to wait until 2015!

If you live in the Brisbane, Logan, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast or Moreton Bay regions, you have the chance to win a weekend registration to ARRC2013, or a double pass to the book-signing event. Get along to your local library and fill out an entry form–good luck!

UPDATE: the library competition is now closed. The winner will be announced on 8 February.

Reblogged this on Melissa Craig – Erotica Author and commented:
I am going… Who is coming? I can’t wait for the conference and wow all the authors at the event are awesome. Shhh, but I will be lost for words meeting ‘Rachel Vincent’ . LOL.

Come along because it’s my first book signing, my first time on a panel of authors… I will be reading from AMPLE ATTRACTION, yep outloud… infront of people. My first time handing over the ‘Queen of Bling’ as I won it with Tracy O’hara last year…. The crown sits in my office. Hehe… Plus last of all…

    Brisbane, 1-3 March, 2013.
Enjoy it any way you can!
