Author spotlight: AB Gayle

30 November 2012

AB Gayle has published a variety of books, including heterosexual sci-fi romance and a travel book on wine, but she is best known for her m/m romances. Her novella, ‘Caught’ placed third in the 2011 Rainbow Awards for best contemporary gay romance. Now living in Sydney, Australia, AB Gayle sets some of her books locally, however her latest bestseller, Red+Blue, explores the wilds of Minnesota and Ontario as well as ‘gay central’ San Francisco.

Welcome AB to the spotlight …

Have you attended on of ARRA events before?

I attended both the Melbourne and Sydney events. The first as a reader and the second as a participating author. The ability to talk with fellow enthusiasts inspired me to write in the first place. I learnt a lot about the genre and was overwhelmed by the generosity of the visiting authors in sharing their time and expertise.

What are you most looking forward to at ARRC2013?

Reconnecting with writers and meeting more readers. The writing scene is ever-evolving, so it is vital to be aware of new trends and changing interests.

Tell us about your latest book…

I’m hoping that Leather+Lace will be released by then. It’s the second in my ‘Opposites Attract’ series and follows the fortunes of Steven Stanhope, a drag queen whose life becomes entwined with an American leather man. Set in Sydney, the novel deals with BDSM and Master/slave interactions, showing all sides of the scene.

What do you have coming up next?

A sequel to my novella ‘Caught’ entitled ‘Bound’, which explores what happens after Nat Taylor hooked up with Danny Ho, an Aussie of Chinese heritage who had been living in the States. The two men also briefly feature in Leather+Lace and once the sequel is released,  Caught+Bound will become another book in the Opposites Attract series.

Keep an eye out for AB’s books:

Thanks, Aimee. I did get some good news which alleviated that disappointment a bit, namely that “Red+Blue” placed equal third in this year’s Rainbow Awards for Best Contemporary Gay Romance, the same place I got last year with “Caught”,

Once again, I was dumbfounded as the award is judged by our peers (not a popularity contest) and it beat some great books by awesome authors.

An update to say tat unfortunately “Leather+Lace” is slotted for a March/April release with Dreamspinner, so it won’t be released on time. Still I’m really looking forward to attending the ARRC convention.
